Reward Ideas - Games
At The Reward Box we are always on the hunt for new ideas (products and activities) for rewards. We are often being asked by parents for ideas on what they (or their fairies!) can leave to reward their children for the the stars they have earned.
Lately our own children have really got into games. We have a 5 and a 4 year old so the games we suggest below are all suitable for these ages. If you think of any games we have missed, please do let us know in the comments below :)
The first game we have come across, that the whole family loves, is Dobble. This simple game is suitable from 3 upwards and is hours of fun. The idea is that you divide the cards and you have to match one item on your card to the card at the top of the pile. The first to throw down all of their cards wins. This game is not only perfectly sized to fit in The Reward Box, but it is also brilliant to go in your handbag to play in restaurants / airports etc. A real winner! Available from all good toy retailers inc John Lewis, Amazon etc and priced at approx £10
Pears in Pairs
This game is suitable for slightly older children (5-7) though can be used with younger children for letter identification (for example find all of the letter 'C's). It encourages children to identify patterns in words and practice spelling by making pairs of intersecting words. This is also a great game to fit inside The Reward Box and for use on holidays / on the move. Available from all good toy retailers inc The Entertainer, Amazon etc and priced at approx £6
For younger children 'Orchard Games' are a brilliant selection of educational games which can engage children from as young 2 (up to about 6). There are lots to chose from and they incorporate fun themes (Greedy Gorillas and Counting Caterpillars) and simple rules. They are available direct from Orchard, or you can often pick them up for about £5 in Sainsburys / Tescos.
Pictureka (Mega Mat)
This is a great game to involve the whole family (3 upwards) and gaurantees to bring out the comptetive spirit in everyone! Spin the spinner and look for the picture that matches on the mat, when you see it (there are harder and easier options) you yell 'Pictureka' and claim your fish prize. Available from amazon and approx £8 for the Mega Mat version
Hosting a 'Family Games Night'
Finally, if your child already has a lot of games, or if money is tight why not download one of our promise vouchers and leave the promise of a 'Family Games Night'. Make the whole evening a proper experience (where i-phones are left off, a big bowl of popcorn keeps everyone fuelled) and engage in some serious family fun - because lets face it as far as rewards go, for most kids your undivided attention for a couple of hours is pretty much the best reward going!
